TOXIC PLANTS AND TREES : BE ALERT!
This list of toxic plants, is by all means not complete, but some pretty common ones that birds, dogs, cats, should never eat and should be deemed deadly! I decided long ago I was not a plant person because the list for what was safe was so small and still came with uncertainty for my parrots so I have NO live plants in my house.
This was my choice but if you do have plants and they are not on this list then please make sure that these plants are removed from your bird’s immediate surroundings for their safety. Just today I had a customer tell me her horror story of her African Grey that never never leaves the top of his cage got down somehow or was spooked down and in trying to climb up she chewed her way up a fern and was found dead hours later.
Animals do not have some of the same digestive enzymes that humans do that is required to process some foods ie; (chocolate, avocado, alcohol, caffeine and carbonated drinks, etc) that can cause cardiac toxicity (heart attack) so please be mindful of the plants around them can do the same.
